How is it already nearly March?! A few busy weeks and a spattering of holidays sure makes time fly!
It feels too far gone to be ‘welcoming’ you to 2016, but as it’s our first Banksia Bulletin of the year, I’m going to do it anyway. Welcome to 2016! You may (or may not) have noticed a slight change with this Banksia Bulletin, and I hope it doesn’t cause anyone too much grief. Historically, this edition coming out in the last week of February would have been called the ‘February Banksia Bulletin’. I’ve gone and done something wild and instead called it the ‘March Banksia Bulletin’. It’s the BB you’ll have on your kitchen table during the month of March, so that just seemed to make more sense! By the time this Bulletin hits news stands and mail boxes, our trainee young Maddelin Johnston will have packed up her pens and hit the road! Maddy’s headed back to Perth to complete her Dip Ed to become a teacher, we wish her all the best and are already placing bets on the odds her first teaching gig will be back in the big Q. Fear not, there will still be a friendly smile awaiting you at our reception desk. Pop in and make our newest team member, Taneika Jefferies feel welcome! Kudos to everyone who has filled in and returned their updated Club Contacts slips! We’re very excited (I’ll admit, it doesn’t take much to excite us) to have a list of up-to-date contacts we can shoot handy info through to. If you’re a new office bearer and haven’t let us know, pretty please do. As always, we have HEAPS going on this month. The touring live stage comedy, Everything Must Go will be gracing our Town Hall stage on Wednesday 2nd March (there’s still some tickets available, pop into the CRC and you can even choose your seat!), we’ve teamed up with the school to put on an Astronomy Night on Tuesday 8th March (check out page 9), Jodie Mortadza is back on Thursday 10th March to deliver Part Two in our Community Governance workshops (page 13) AND on Friday 11th March we’re throwing a Mexican Fiesta! Why? Because it’s our birthday and we love tacos and tequila (flyer on the cover)! Well done to all those getting involved with fundraising, and doing something outrageous to encourage it! The co-op will be partaking in the World’s Greatest Shave on Saturday 12th March (need a haircut? Check out the Community Notices overleaf) and a few keen ladies are doing a fair bit of walking (60km each!) to raise money to End Women’s Cancer. Be sure to throw your spare change their way! Feel free to throw it at us and we’ll throw it at them (metaphorically speaking, of course). Starting next month we’ll be introducing a ‘Letters to the Editor’ type section in the Banksia Bulletin. I encourage you to put pen to paper or fingertips to keys and tell us what’s on your mind! Maybe a local issue, something you’ve heard on the radio, a bright idea you’ve had or a burning question. Use your sound judgment to decide on it’s appropriateness and we will too. Enjoy the last few days of summer, the +40˚c days are nearly over (hallelujah)!
