I legitimately lost my mind yesterday when I realised that there in fact isn’t a month between October and November. Has that always been the case? Or is someone playing silly buggers?! Either way, looks like it’s time to buckle down.
When this edition hits the newsstand, there will only be forty three sleeps until the 2016 Quairading Ag Show! Yes, I chose to type that in words to make it seem further away. Totally works. The Quairading CRC has been helping the Quairading Ag Society with lots of little bits and pieces (including the Show Schedule which will be available from Friday 26th August!). There’s plenty going on this month! We're hosting a Grant Writing Workshop at the CRC on Tuesday 5th September (details page 13), a Business After Hours event will be held at Quairading Tyre & Battery Supplies on Thursday 15th September (details on page 15), the Creative Arts Society will open the 2016 Feature Artist Exhibition on Friday 16th (details on page 17), Quairading is celebrating NAIDOC Day on Thursday 22nd September (details on page 21). The changing of the season is also marked with AGMs galore - we've tried to include them all on the Community Calendar on the back page, and in the Community Notices overleaf. Quick shout out to Amanda and her staff at the new and improved Quairading Pub! If you haven't popped in for a meal or a refreshing beverage yet, you should definitely do so. STAT. The menu is massive, there's lots of live entertainment coming up AND a bottle shop is opening soon too (more on page 12). We're almost a bit spoilt for choice in Quairading right now, and that ain't a bad thing! Thanks to all of you kind souls who wished me well as I represented the Eastern Districts Group of Ag Societies at the State Rural Ambassador Judging on the weekend. I had a bloody brilliant weekend, put up at the freshly renovated Rendezvous Scarborough with the other four candidates. We networked and shared ideas all weekend long, and while I didn’t come away with a new sash I made some great new pals - and our state is going to be represented superbly at the national competition next year! I’ve included my speech from the awards dinner on page 37 if you’re interested! We seem to be going through another one of those pesky rough patches with many sad losses throughout our community in the past few weeks. On behalf of the CRC staff and committee, I'd like to offer our condolences and if there's anything we can do, just ask. Enjoy the beautiful flowers starting to bloom - the walk in the nature reserve will be pretty good this month I think! Jill Hayes Coordinator, Quairading CRC Editor, Banksia Bulletin
