The Inside Out Project was created by French street artist ‘JR’. In March 2011, JR won the TED prize at the TED Conference in California, and called for the creation of a global participatory art project with the potential to change the world.

The project involves pasting giant portraits onto blank walls. The portraits aim to be unique and captivating, to encompass the good that is INSIDE someone, and show it on the OUTside.

We identified a lack of public art within our vibrant community of Quairading and wanted to do something about it. We made sure we were on the right track bu surveying the community about whether or not they would support local public art projects and the response was overwhelmingly positive.

We registered our Group Action with Inside Out and it was to say thank you to Quairading, from Quairading. We wanted this piece of art to display the generosity of our many and varied volunteers who donate their time, love and other resources to create the inclusive and diverse community Quairading is so proud of.

We were lucky enough to receive a grant from the Department of Local Government and Communities through the Thank a Volunteer Grant Program to make this idea a reality.

We enlisted the expert help of Geoff Hall from Area 51 Photography to capture the beautiful faces of Quairading at the annual Christmas Street Party on Friday 16th December 2016. A random selection of these photos were then sent off to Inside Out HQ to be edited and printed and posted back to us in the biggest size photos we've ever seen! We cooked up litres and litres of wheatpaste and took paper to wall on Friday 3rd March 2017.

The images are temporary and the art will change with the seasons.

Thank you so much to everyone who helped make this project happen. If any wants to cook up some paste and fix up a few corners, be our guest!
