Banksia Bulletin Editorial November 2016

My oh my, hasn’t October just been an absolute cracker!

Show week set the pace of the month with long, jam-packed days and crazy temperamental weather. The Ag Society reported over 1000 people through the gate, which was incredible considering the climatic conditions. I for one can not wait for the perfectly clear skies we're due for next year, to enjoy a vino or two from that fabulous Silo Bar!

Summer sports are off and away (actually, did bowls ever stop?). Everyone’s copping surprise sunburn and the mozzies and spiders have set in (nooooooooo!). Do you think it’s safe to say yet, that winter is gone?

Myself and the Chairperson of the CRC Management Committee (AKA, Mum) spent two days in Perth this week at the Linkwest State Conference, with reps from over 50 other CRC's and a handful of metro Neighbourhood Centre's. I've returned both inspired and overwhelmed at how many incredibly cool things people are doing for their communities, all over the state. Over the summer months we'll be 're-tendering' with the Department of Regional Development for services we hope to deliver during our next three year contract through to June 2020. Did that make zero sense to you? That’s okay.

In order to deliver good stuff, we first need to determine what our community needs. Between now and Christmas, we're going to be chin wagging all over town, holding focus groups and reviewing why we do everything we do. Happy to swap you a cuppa for your thoughts!

We here at the CRC are rounding out October with the hotly anticipated, Spring Fling Garden Day! Final preparations are being put in place to feed and entertain over 130 gardening enthusiasts - fingers crossed for a glorious, sunny day! Our November offerings include Movie Afternoon on Thursday 3rd, a live broadcast from the state theatre on Friday 4th and a Seniors Week Kite Workshop with the K & PPs on Friday 11th.

I hope you can find a few quiet minutes to read through the poem on the cover, and keep it in the forefront of your minds whenever you get behind the wheel. Not just as we approach the busy harvest and holiday season, but always.

Also, I can’t resist wishing you a Happy Halloween! Say what you will about the commercialism of American traditions, I’m all for getting spooky and having some fun and will have a healthy balance of eye-ball candy and fresh carrot sticks for all!

Peace out.
